Tall Flatsedge / Umbrella Sedge / American Galingale

Cyperus eragrostis

A non-native member of the sedge family, this tropical looking plant has clusters of flower spikelets on long stems. It's a great architectural  plant for the backdrop of a pond planting display or bog garden. Fully hardy in the UK.

This plant is semi evergreen, therefore in a mild winter may retain its stems/leaves. However in a harsh winter it will reduce back to its basket and begin growing again in the spring.

The recommended depth in water is calculated as the distance between the top of the basket and the water surface. Therefore "0" would be the basket rim at the water surface.

Example plant photos taken in March 2021. The plant has only just begun growing this season.

This plant is supplied in a standard plastic plant pot. It will benefit from being repotted into a mesh basket. See our range here.
